SC 8/285/14202B
Date
[? c. 1327-? c. 1337]
Description
Petitioners
Peter (Pey) Calyou (Cailhau, Caillau).
Name(s)
Calyou (Cailhau, Caillau), Peter (Pey)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Peter Calyou states that his father during his lifetime held Bussac with its appurtenances, and that after his death Peter held it; but that shortly before the last war in Gascony, the Lady of Tiran, maliciously and without reason, put the place into the hand of the King of France, and during the war, and before and after, she lived, and still lives, in Paris, suing the court of France against the king and many of his people. During the war and since Peter has held Bussac, receiving its rents. He asks for the king's letters patent, granting him what he has received and will reasonably receive of the rents of Bussac, while it remains in the king's hand; so that he might be protected from harm and from the lady's malice.
Nature of endorsement
The king will be advised about the reason why the place was taken into the hand of the King of France, and will further do what is reasonable.
Places mentioned
Bussac, [Guyenne, France]
Tiran, [Guyenne, France]
Gascony, [France]
Paris, [France].
People mentioned
Lady of Tiran
King of France.
Note
From the hand and language, and the mention of a recent war, this petition would seem to date from the early years of the reign of Edward III.
