Description
Petitioners
William (Guilhem), Lord of Caumont.
Name(s)
Lord of Caumont, William (Guilhem)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
William, Lord of Caumont in the Agenais, states that when John de Havering was Seneschal of Gascony, Fortaner de Badz held all William's lands under the king's hand for around two years, and took all his rents and issues, as well as all the goods and chattels that he found in his castles; and that the king ordered him to return the lands and all other things to William. By virtue of this order, Guy Ferre, then Seneschal of Gascony returned William's lands to him, and ordered Fortaner to render account for the rents, issues and other things, and to return to William what he had taken: but Fortaner refused to do this. He asks that the Seneschal of Gascony might be ordered to compel Fortaner to return to William those things that he can show were his.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal of Gascony is to be written to that, when he has called Fortaner de Badz, and the king's proctor, and the others who seem to him to be called in this matter, and when he has seen the royal letters mentioned in this petition, he is to do what accords with justice and reason.

John de Havering was Seneschal of Gascony for the second time between October 1304 and August 1308, and Guy Ferre was Seneschal for the second time between August 1308 and September 1309.
