Nature of request
The merchant vintners of the Duchy of Guyenne, petitioning on their own behalf and that of all the inhabitants of the Duchy, state that the king's father granted and warranted to them by his charter various franchises in perpetuity, and that the king confirmed this charter in all its points to them and to the entire Duchy in perpetuity. They ask to be upheld in these franchises, and that the Chancellor might be ordered to renew their charters and clarify these articles, so that they might remain in peace in the realm, in towns, ports and elsewhere.

Note
Tentatively dated to the later part of the reign of Edward II by the hand and language: and from the contents datable to before the outbreak of the war of St Sardos in 1324. Quite possibly datable to 1321-1323 like SC 8/284/14197. It is, however, possible that the petition dates from the early years of the reign of Edward III, rather than Edward II.
