Description
Petitioners
Bernard (Bernat) de Blankeford (Blanquefort), Lord of Audenge.
Name(s)
de Blankeford (Blanquefort), Lord of Audenge, Bernard (Bernat)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Bernard de Blankeford makes three requests:1) He states that the Vicomtesse de Fronsac held all her lands and rents in the parishes of Mios and Salles in the Bordelais giving his ancestors homage and fealty and 100 s. of relief, but that Ponts de Vareys, son of Amaubin de Vareys, holds these lands without doing the accustomed services to Bernard, saying that they were given to his father by the king: so that he holds them in prejudice and disinheritance of Bernard. Bernard asks that the Seneschal of Gascony might be ordered to inquire into whether or not these lands and rents were held of his ancestors, and to do justice to the parties according to the custom of the country.2) He states that a dispute has arisen between the people of the parishes of Mios and Salles about a pasture and wood that they both claim, and asks the king, as his liege lord, that the matter might be tried and judged by good and loyal people.3) He states that while he was in the king's service during the war, several of his vileins, serfs and neifs entered the city of Bordeaux or other franchises, claiming to be free because of his service with the king. He asks the king to order that his people be delivered to him, so that he might hold them as he did before the war.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the first two petitions: the seneschal is to be ordered that, when he has called the parties before him, he is to do swift justice. With regard to the third petition: the seneschal is to be ordered that if he finds that his people were removed from him into other franchises because of his period of service to the king, he is to make them return to him as to their lord.
