Description
Petitioners
Arnold William (Arnaut Guilhem) de Poilouaut.
Name(s)
de Poilouaut, Arnold William (Arnaut Guilhem)
Addressees
[King]
Nature of request
Arnold William de Poilouaut states that the Lord of Caupenne has claimed the high justice that the king has over the Lord of Navailles, Assyn de Navalles, Armand de Poilouaut, the town of Bats, the town of Feug, and other gentle people and noble places; but these people have opposed this, saying that the king cannot give away this justice without doing them wrong, and have requested judgment from the great court of St-Sever. The king therefore took the whole matter into his hand, and gave them his letters under the great seal, saying that if the Lord of Caupenne wished to claim anything against them, they were to answer him in the court of St-Sever, according to the custom of the country. These letters have been burnt and destroyed by the King of France's people, but they are enrolled in Chancery. Arnold William asks that they might be renewed and given to him, so that he and the others can defend themselves against the Lord of Caupenne.
Nature of endorsement
Because the letter cannot be found in Chancery, the Seneschal of Gascony is to be ordered to put the business in the same state in which it was when the land was delivered to the French, and, when he has done this, he is to do justice to the parties.Intratur.
