SC 8/284/14184
Date
[1327-1332]
Description
Petitioners
Peter (Pey) de Gavarret (Gabaret), Lord of Langon.
Name(s)
de Gavarret (Gabaret), Lord of Langon, Peter (Pey)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Peter de Gavarret makes two requests:1) He states that the Earl of Kent gave him, in compensation for his losses of lands and rents worth £2000, £1000 of rent from the lands that belonged to Treitet (?) de Lenhan, daughter of Oliver de Lenhan, on condition that if the lands were not worth that, the Constable of Bordeaux would give him the remainder. They are not worth this sum, and he asks that the Constable might be ordered to pay him the remainder, with arrears from the time the gift was made. He also asks that this gift might be confirmed.2) He asks that the Constable of Bordeaux might be ordered to pay the wages due to him and his companions, as otherwise he will not be able to maintain his estate or serve the king should the need arise.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the confirmation, the kings of England and France have arranged a day at Paris at the octaves of Michaelmas next, concerning requests made on one side and the other; and among the requests of the King of England mention is made of his lands and of the lands of his subjects in those parts, where he certainly intends to have restitution. When he has it, they will be served in a suitable manner; and if by chance they do not meet with success in the matter of these lands, the king will inform himself both of their losses in lands and chattels and of their good service, and he will give them such a response that they will reasonably consider themselves to be satisfied. With regard to the wages, the Constable of Bordeaux is to be ordered to account with him and to pay him what is due to him.Done, with regard to the wages.

Note
From the mention of the Earl of Kent, the king's uncle, this petition would seem to date to the early years of the reign of Edward III. From the endorsement, it can further be seen to be contemporary with SC 8/284/14169 and SC 8/284/14171, both of which can be dated to 1327-1332, and probably to around 1327. Also contemporary with SC 8/284/14175, and SC 8/284/14192.
