Description
Petitioners
Raymond Bernard (Ramon Bernat) Durford (Durfort) of Bajamont.
Name(s)
Durford (Durfort), Raymond Bernard (Ramon Bernat)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Raymond Bernard Durford of Bajamont states that he, his brother, and their companions have served from the beginning of the war until the present, and that for this he has incurred the hatred of the King of France, the people of Agen and the King of France's ministers, and he and his brother have suffered great damages, especially through the destruction of the castle of Beaulieu and of the honour of Castelsagrat. In compensation for this, he asks that the lands called Durfort, in the honour of Penne-d'Agenais, might be given to him and his heirs.
Nature of endorsement
The kings of England and France have arranged a day at Paris at the octaves of Michaelmas next, concerning requests made on one side and the other; and among the requests of the King of England mention is made of his lands and of the lands of his subjects in those parts, where he certainly intends to have restitution. When he has it, they will be served in a suitable manner; and if by chance they do not meet with success in the matter of these lands, the king will inform himself both of their losses in lands and chattels and of their good service, and he will give them such a response that they will reasonably consider themselves to be satisfied. He is to have £100 in petty tournois annually from the issues of the Duchy, until the king is informed concerning his damages and losses etc.And he is to have a command that his wages are to be paid him etc.[There seems to be evidence of a further endorsement, which is now illegible.]
