Description
Petitioners
Arnold (Arnaut) Esmon.
Name(s)
Esmon, Arnold (Arnaut)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Arnold Esmon makes two requests:1) He states that when Oliver de Ingham was Seneschal of Gascony, he gave him the lands formerly belonging to the Lord of Ambleville, the king's enemy and rebel, and asks that this gift might be confirmed.2) He asks that the present Constable of Bordeaux, or the person who will be Constable for the time being, might be ordered to pay him the wages due to him, and to give him an assignment for them on the issues of the customs of Bordeaux or of the prevote of Blaye.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the confirmation, the kings of England and France have arranged a day at Paris at the octaves of Michaelmas next, concerning requests made on one side and the other; and among the requests of the King of England mention is made of his lands and of the lands of his subjects in those parts, where he certainly intends to have restitution. When he has it, they will be served in a suitable manner; and if by chance they do not meet with success in the matter of these lands, the king will inform himself both of their losses in lands and chattels and of their good service, and he will give them such a response that they will reasonably consider themselves to be satisfied. With regard to the wages, the Constable of Bordeaux is to be ordered to account with him and to pay him what is due to him.Done, with regard to the wages.
