Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/284/14161
Date
[? 1327-? 1332]
Description
Petitioners
Arnold (Arnaut) de Lobynges.
Name(s)
de Lobynges, Arnold (Arnaut)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Arnold de Lobynges states that he lost his lands in and around La Reole through his adherence to the king's right when the Earl of Kent, the king's uncle, besieged Charles Count of Valois there, and that since then he has never been able to recover his lands or to have any other remuneration. He asks the king and council to ordain for him to have his lands back, or to have some compensation, so that he can live honourably.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the damages and losses, the king has understood that some compensation has been made in such a case, and will shortly send a suitable seneschal to those parts, [who will inform himself of the losses] and of the damages given and received, and the damages inflicted, and the condition of the people, and will act in such a manner that everyone will reasonably consider himself satisfied.
Places mentioned
La Reole, [Guyenne, France].
People mentioned
[Edmund of Woodstock], Earl of Kent
Charles [de Valois, Count of Valois].
Note
From the mention of the Earl of Kent, the king's uncle, this petition would seem to date from the beginning of the reign of Edward III, and from the mention of the sending of a new seneschal, to either around February 1327 (before the appointment of John de Haustede) or to around June 1332 (before the appointment of Oliver de Ingham). The dating of SC 8/282/14093, which has an identical endorsement, suggests that the latter date is more likely.
