Nature of request
Stephen Donadey petitions concerning the murder of Stephen Donadey, his father and John de Talhaneto his servant by Raymond de Mercadoli in the jurisdiction of Agen, which then belonged to the King of France. He asks that a sentence wrongly brought without his knowledge might be revoked and quashed, and that the Seneschals of Gascony and the Agenais might be ordered to arrest Raymond and his goods, to send Raymond to the Seneschal of the King of France, and to keep the goods until he has been purged of the crime; and as he has goods in England, at Boston, to the value of £10000 or £15000, that they might be seized also; and if Raymond does not come before the justice within a year, these goods are to be applied to royal business. He also states that he has maliciously been accused of the death of his brother, Gerald Donadey, but has been duly absolved of this by the Bishop of Agen. He asks that the seneschals might be ordered that, if they can establish that this is the case, they might no longer harass him about this, and that he might be taken into the king's safe-keeping and protection, notwithstanding a similar protection from the King of France.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal of Gascony is to be ordered that, when he has called the king's proctor on this matter, if he can establish that the petitioner was duly absolved of the death of his brother by ecclesiastical judgment, then he is not to harass him in body or in goods contrary to the form of the aforesaid absolution.
