[c. 1304]
Description
Petitioners
William (Guilhem) de Sowe (Soe).
Name(s)
de Sowe (Soe), William (Guilhem)
Addressees
[King]
Nature of request
William de Sowe makes three requests:1) He asks that, if the king does not wish to give him and allowance for payment of his debts on the Ile d'Oleron, he might have such an allowance on the prevote of Labouheyre, or, failing that, the prevote and castellany of Dax. And he asks that whichever pleases the king might be leased to him for as much as any other is prepared to give.2) He asks that if none of these places pleases the king, he might have an allowance for his debts where it seems best to the king.3) He states that he petitioned the king's council at York to have the prevote of the Ile d'Oleron for as much as any other would give, and the council replied that this was the king's will, and that he would have a letter on this in Chancery. And he asks that if this is no longer the king's will, that he might have one or other of the other prevotes, for as much as any other, and not be driven out of the king's service.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the first two petitions: the king will ordain certain people to make payment of the debts which the king owes the good people of Gascony; and because he has served the king well, his payment will be expedited and made swiftly, before the others. With regard to the bailiwick of the prevote of Oleron: the seneschal and constable are to be ordered that he is to have the bailiwick for as much as another will give, provided that he shows good security as other baillis do.To be entered in the roll of responses (?).
