Nature of request
Letter from the people of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne to Edward I stating that the three proctors they have sent to the king to obtain liberties for them have suffered threats and injuries on that account, and that they are afraid that they will suffer more unless they are aided by the king's grace. They ask the king to receive them into his grace and protection, and to give credence to what they say, assuring him that, whatever their ill-wishers might say, their bastide abounds in lands, meadows, waters, vines and all the necessities of life, and he should not give credence to anyone who says the contrary.
Nature of endorsement

Note
From the names of the proctors, contemporary with SC 8/283/14143. Roles Gascons, vol. II no.523 is dated 10 November 9 Edward I (1281), no.527 is dated 28 November, nos. 599-600 are dated 4 July (1282), and nos.605-606 are dated 3 July (1282). As from the contents of this petition the inquisition appears to have taken place, it would seem to be datable to 1282. The three proctors are mentioned by name in no.606.
