Nature of request

The consuls and community of Villereal, in the diocese of Agen, make three requests:1) They state that Realmont, which is near their town, with its fields and with certain parishes, was surrendered to the King's father by the King of France, and that the King's father willed and ordained that it should be governed as appears from his letters granted to the consuls and community on the subject; but that the Seneschals of Gascony, at the request of Isarn de Balenx, later sequestered part of the fields, to their prejudice and that of the king's right. They ask that the bailli of Villereal might be ordered to use the sequestered portion of the fields as well as the rest, and that the Treasurer of the Agenais might be ordered to lease and farm out the whole of the fields together; saving the right of Isarn's heirs if they should wish to claim any part of them.2) They ask that the customs, franchises and privileges granted to them by the king's father might be confirmed, and that the officials of the Duchy might be ordered to preserve them in these franchises, notwithstanding any evil use in use since the granting of these franchises.3) They state that there have been disputes between those who live in the town and those who live outside, and not in the fields or the honour; and that it has been ordained that three consuls should be chosen from the town and three from the honour. They ask that those who live outside might have their lodgings in the town.

Nature of endorsement

[On face, to first] The sequestration was put in place as the result of a suit, and with cognisance of the suit at the command of the Seneschal; and it cannot be released without cognisance of the suit.[To second] They are to show their privileges in England, as the great seal is not here.[To third] The Seneschal of the Agenais is to be ordered to do for the king and the state (res publica) what seems to him to be done.[None on dorse]
