Name(s)

Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Margaret de Gironde, widow of Ponts, Lord of Castillon-Medoc and mother and guardian of Ponts his son, a minor of eight years of age, states that her son has no-one to protect and defend him except her, and that powerful neighbours are taking advantage of his weakness to seize his lands and possessions. She asks the king to take the boy and his lands and possessions into his protection, and to protect and maintain them, and all his rights and liberties, through his seneschal of Gascony, and to return anything wrongly done against the boy to its correct state, as his ancestors have always loyally served the king and his father in their wars in Gascony, Scotland and elsewhere, and their land is ruined, their castles destroyed and their goods lost as a result.
Nature of endorsement
It is to be done since he is a minor, to last as long as it pleases the king; provided it is not to anyone's prejudice.
