Description
Petitioners
Proctor (procureur) of Bordeaux.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Proctor (procureur) of Bordeaux
Nature of request
The proctor of Bordeaux states that John de Haustede, Seneschal of Gascony, has taken from the people of Bordeaux merchandise and other goods to the sum of £1500 tournois or more, without paying anyone, and asks that the Constable of Bordeaux and the Mayor of Bordeaux, or one of them, might be ordered that if John de Haustede wishes to leave the Duchy, he is to be forced to pay what he owes and to give satisfaction to the people by arrest of his body and goods.
Nature of endorsement
He is to be ordered to give satisfaction to the said people.
Places mentioned
Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France]
Duchy [of Guyenne, France].
People mentioned
John de Haustede, Seneschal of Gascony.
Note
Datable with reference to John de Haustede, Seneschal of Gascony between February 1327 and June 1332. Instructions to John de Haustede to give satisfaction to the people of Bordeaux for £5000 tournois of goods taken from them are dated 24 August 1329 (C 61/41 m.6); it would seem more likely that this petition dates from the end of his period of office, and that this is the remainder of that sum.
