Nature of request
The king's merchants, denizen and foreign, complain of a new tax levied by the King of France's wardens in the town of Langon in the Duchy of Guyenne, which is contrary to all ancient statutes and to merchant law: that is, a levy of 10 s. tournois on each tun of wine to find security that they will not take the wine to England or sell it to anyone who will take it to England. They ask that this toll might be abolished, so that the realm is not reduced to servitude.

He is to sue to the messengers who will go to the Paris parlement, who will be charged with this business among others touching the Duchy.
