Nature of request
Peter Fouchier, clerk, guardian of Julian and Peter de Seint Arroman, makes three requests:1) He states that when he and the children were in the king's safe-keeping granted to them by the Seneschal of Gascony, Mary de Rozeffont, the boys' mother, and others came armed by night to his lodging, seized him by force, stripped the boys and carried them and their goods off to the lodging of Marquize de Menxs; and they wounded Arnold de Campebrat, alias Arnold de Gordon, who was guarding the lodging. He requests letters to the present Seneschal of Gascony, or the person who will be Seneschal for the time being, to do justice on the malefactors and to force them to return the boys and their goods.2) He requests letters to the Mayor of Bordeaux to arrest those of the malefactors who are his burgesses and to keep them in prison, and to represent them before the Seneschal on the day that he will assign.3) As these things have been done to the dishonour of the king, breaking his safe-keeping and harming his royal majesty, he requests letters to his procurator overseas to sue the malefactors so that the king's safe-keeping is restored and compensation provided for him and for the party, and justice and punishment for the malefactors, so that they will be an example to others.
Nature of endorsement
[On face, to first] The present Seneschal etc. is to be ordered that, when he has called the parties before him and heard their arguments, he is further to do full justice.[To second] With regard to this petition he is to have what he asks, if the laws and customs (les fores et les custumes) of that country allow it.[To third] It is to be done in this case as has been done in similar cases before now.[None on dorse]
