Reference
SC 8/282/14099
Date
[? 1327-? 1332]
Description
Petitioners
Alice (Alays) de Boysses, burgess of Bordeaux.
Name(s)
de Boysses, Alice (Alays)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Alice de Boysses makes two requests:1) She states that, since the time when Charles de Valois was before La Reole she has been deprived of £30 tournois of rent in Sauveterre, because of the war in Gascony, and that she has had no compensation for this. She requests the king's letters patent to the Seneschal of Gascony and Constable of Bordeaux to make her an assignment for this £30 from the issues of the vicarie of the market of Bordeaux, until she can recover her rent.2) She also requests a gift of the king's grace of half or three-quarters of the arrears of this rent, as she has nothing on which to live; and she requests the king's letters to the constable for this.
Nature of endorsement
Let the losses and damages be confirmed (?).The king has understood that some compensation has been made in such a case, and will shortly send a suitable seneschal to those parts, who will inform himself of the losses and damages given and received, and the damages inflicted, and the condition of the people, and will act in such a manner that everyone will reasonably consider himself satisfied.
Places mentioned
Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France]
Gascony, [France]
La Reole, [Guyenne, France]
Sauveterre, [Guyenne, France].
People mentioned
Charles de Valois, [Count of Valois].
Note
This petition would seem to date from the beginning of the reign of Edward III, and from the mention of the sending of a new seneschal, to either around February 1327 (before the appointment of John de Haustede) or to around June 1332 (before the appointment of Oliver de Ingham). The dating of SC 8/282/14093, which has an identical endorsement, suggests that the latter date is more likely.
