Reference
SC 8/282/14094
Date
[c. 1328]
Description
Petitioners
William Amaneu (Guilhem-Amaneu), de Madaillan, Lord of Rauzan.
Name(s)
de Madaillan, Lord of Rauzan, William Amaneu (Guilhem-Amaneu)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
William Amaneu, Lord of Rauzan, makes two requests:1) He asks that the Constable of Bordeaux might be ordered by the king's letters patent to pay him £2000 tournois which are owed to him by an obligation made by the Earl of Richmond, stating that the Duchy of Guyenne owes him this sum.2) He requests letters to surrender to him the land of Blanquefort, which was held by Punset his brother, who was killed in the king's service, and to pay him the wages owing to Punset as his heir, so that he can pay his brother's debts. And he asks that the gifts made to him and to Punset by the Earl of Kent might be confirmed.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the first: the seneschal and constable are to be ordered to examine the obligation and to inform the king concerning the same obligation, word for word as it is written, and concerning the reason why it was made, so that the king can further do what is just and reasonable. With regard to the second: the king wishes to be informed as to who holds the land now, if it is in his hand or the hand of another, and if it is in his hand then for what reason and how etc., and if in the hand of another, then whose and how, and if Punset was inherited with the said land and if William is his next heir or someone else: so that he can further do what is just and reasonable.
Places mentioned
Rauzan, [Guyenne, France]
Guyenne, [France]
Blanquefort, [Guyenne, France].
People mentioned
[John de Bretagne (Brittany)], Earl of Richmond
Punset (Pons) [de Monnil], brother of William Amaneu, Lord of Rauzan
[Edmund of Woodstock], Earl of Kent.
Note
Rot. Parl. Hac. Ined. p.183, from the Northampton parliament of Easter 1328, is an enrolment of another petition from this petitioner, also mentioning the £2000 tournois owed to him. This petition would seem to date from the same period. The mention of Edmund, Earl of Kent, Lieutenant in Gascony between July 1324 and January 1326, dates it to after 1324, and most probably to the reign of Edward III.
