Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/282/14093
Date
[1330]
Description
Petitioners
Gilbert (Gilabert) de Pelegrue (Pellegrue).
Name(s)
de Pelegrue (Pellegrue), Gilbert (Gilabert)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Gilbert de Pelegrue states that because of his service to the king during the war, when the Earl of Kent was in Gascony, he lost all his houses, lands and movable goods, and that he has been disinherited for five years without any compensation. He therefore requests compensation according to his service and the damages he has received, so that he and his children might maintain their estate. He still serves the king and intends to do so for the rest of his life, and says that the English knights who were in Gascony during the war will attest to his service.
Nature of endorsement
The king has understood that some compensation has been made in such a case, and will shortly send a suitable seneschal to those parts, who will inform himself of the losses and damages given and received, and the damages inflicted, and the condition of the people, and will act in such a manner that everyone will reasonably consider himself satisfied.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France].
People mentioned
[Edmund of Woodstock], Earl of Kent.
Note
Edmund, Earl of Kent, was Lieutenant in Gascony between July 1324 and January 1326, and as the petitioner mentions being disinherited for five years, this petition would seem to date from around 1329-1331. The instructions on m.9 of C 61/42, dated 1 May 1330, would seem to be in response to this petition.
