Nature of request
Bramfrey, lord of Montpezat, states that when the late king of France wished to take the castle of Montpezat into his hand, to the disinheritance of the king's father, Bramfrey's father delivered the castle with its appurtenances into the hand of the king's father's seneschal, to save the king's right. The king of France then destroyed the castle in war, and seized all the rents; and because of the service that Bramfrey's father did the king and his father, the king of France's people have destroyed two more of his castles, Seynmerd and Blaignac with their rents, which they still hold. He requests compensation.
Nature of endorsement
The king has understood that some compensation has been made in such a case, and will shortly send a suitable seneschal to those parts, who will inform himself of the losses and damages given and received, and the damages inflicted, and the condition of the people, and will act in such a manner that everyone will reasonably consider himself satisfied.

Note
This petition clearly dates to the beginning of the reign of Edward III, and from the mention of the sending of a new seneschal, to either around February 1327 (before the appointment of John de Haustede) or to around June 1332 (before the appointment of Oliver de Ingham). The dating of SC 8/282/14093, which has an identical endorsement, suggests that the latter date is more likely. Check C 61/72 m.5.
