Description
Petitioners
Arnold William (Arnaut Guilhem) de Bearn, lord of Lescun.
Name(s)
de Bearn, lord of Lescun, Arnold William (Arnaut Guilhem)
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Lescun, [Gascony, France]
Aragon, [Spain]
Paris, [France]
Aquitaine, [France].
Nature of request
Arnold William de Bearn, lord of Lescun, asks the king to take council concerning his banishment, and to have consideration for the great damages he has sustained, continues to sustain, and will sustain while it pleases the king; and to order the present Constable of Bordeaux, or the person who will be Constable for the time being, to pay him what he can show is due to him for his wages, without delay, especially those which [were] ordained [during] his banishment, as he has not had a penny of them, but has lived in the realm of Aragon in great hardship.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the banishment, the king will send certain messengers to the Parlement of Paris at the octaves of Michaelmas next, who will be charged with this business, and other things concerning the Duchy. With regard to the wages, the present Constable of Bordeaux etc. is to be ordered to account with him for his wages, and to pay him what is due to him.Done, with regard to the wages.
Note
The order to pay the petitioner on m. 4 of C 62/101 is dated 10 January 18 Edward II (1325): but it seems more likely that the wages referred to in the petition are for military service, especially endorsements are very similar to those of several other petitions in this file which seem to date to the beginning of the reign of Edward III. There are instructions to pay the wages of the petitioner and his brother on m.8 of C 61/40, dated 10 March 1328, and further instructions to pay the petitioner on m. 4 of C 61/41, dated 18 August 1329. The latter is perhaps more likely to be in response to the petition.
