Date
[? 1327-? 1332]
Description
Petitioners
Amaneu de Coloynak (Coloinac) and Paul de Vetat, companions of Ponts de Monnil.
Name(s)
de Coloynak (Coloinac); de Vetat, Amaneu; Paul
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Amaneu de Coloynak and Paul de Vetat, companions of Ponts de Monnil, who was killed as the king's castellan in Gascony, state that they have lost lands to the value of £100 tournois per annum, and ask that they might be given a certain annual sum from the customs at Bordeaux until they have recovered them.
Nature of endorsement
The king has understood that some compensation has been made in such a case, and will shortly send a suitable seneschal to those parts, who will inform himself of the losses and damages given and received, and the damages inflicted, and the condition of the people, and will act in such a manner that everyone will reasonably consider himself satisfied.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France]
France
Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France].
People mentioned
Ponts de Monnil.
Note
This petition would seem to date from the beginning of the reign of Edward III, and from the mention of the sending of a new seneschal, to either around February 1327 (before the appointment of John de Haustede) or to around June 1332 (before the appointment of Oliver de Ingham). The dating of SC 8/282/14093, which has an identical endorsement, suggests that the latter date is more likely.
