Forwards address from 'a numerous and respectable body' to Queen Victoria congratulating her on her marriage and calling for improvements in the franchise. They state that of a population of about 130,000 less than 1,200 have the vote, a number which includes absentees. [For another copy of this address see CO 28/135/53]. Also forwards papers relating to labour migration including a return of 452 migrants leaving Barbados during May 1840 (numbers only, arranged by parish and in the categories 'male', 'female', and 'children'), and statements of returned emigrants showing their disappointment with the inadequacy of wages at Demerara given the high cost of provisions and also the unhealthiness of the climate.
