Doge of Genoa to Sir John Norris [in Italian]: one of the main tasks of his government is to cultivate a perfect understanding with Queen Anne and Norris. He professes constant neutrality; anyone who breaks it is imprisoned or expelled. Even if the duke of Tursey is a fellow-citizen his family is no longer admitted to government, he was not aware that the duke had broken Genoan law and Genoa cannot be blamed for his actions. Undated.
Sir John Norris to Dartmouth: the Spanish cavalry not being able to reach Valencia on time and the fleet being short of provisions, he has left three frigates for that expedition and sailed for Port Mahon to clean, refit and victual. Lord Forbes's capture of the two Genoan ships with a million pieces of eights referred to Doctors' Commons. Shortage of corn in Provence. In accordance with the resolutions of a council of war eight ships have sailed for the straits [of Gibraltar] and five for Algier. Capture of Captain Cole and the company of the Fame. They have been acquitted of the loss of the ship by a court martial. Question of the gift of a ship's mast to the dey of Algier. As soon as the ships are ready he will sail for the straits. Dated on board Ranelagh at Port Mahon.

Resolution of a council of war held on board Ranelagh on 18 October 1710, that in view of reports of 16 French ships cruising about the straits, as soon as the ships can be readied they should sail in search of them. Three ships are to cruise the Italian coast.
