Forwards copy of a letter from Samuel J Prescod, editor of the Liberal, addressed to the British Emancipator and published in the Barbados Globe and Colonial Advocate. Prescod describes the present conditions of the labourers, and asks, 'Will this state of things be suffered long, think you? Will the British people and government suffer this state of things to be perpetuated, until the intolerably oppressed objects are goaded to desperation to rid themselves of it? And shall British bayonets, in support of this hellish system, be imbrued in the blood of men so goaded on?' The governor states his opinion that it was essential to give the ecclesiastical, magisterial and military authorities an opportunity to comment, and now forwards papers expressing their opinions.
