Resolution of a council of war held on HMS Ranelagh in Vaia Bay on 24 May 1710 that, as there is no sign of the enemy attacking Sardinia, as soon as the troops can be embarked, they will proceed to Barcelona for the king of Spain's [Charles III] orders.
Sir John Norris to Sunderland on 29 May: on the arrival of General Browne a council of war was held, of which he encloses a copy, which resolved to go to Barcelona. Since then he has received intelligence that the enemy has sailed for Sardinia. A new council of war has therefore resolved to sail to Sardinia, which Norris regrets. Dated on board Ranelagh in Vaia Bay.

Sir John Norris to the doge of Genoa on 31 May 1710 protesting at the republic's partiality to the enemy, especially in the persons of the duke of Uzeda and the duke of Tursis. Dated on Ranelagh in Vaia Bay.
Sir John Norris to Sunderland on 31 May 1710: in accordance with Sunderland's letter he has written to the doge of Genoa and encloses a copy of the letter. French ships operating out of neutral Tuscany have captured Dutch ships. Norris asks whether he may retaliate. He wishes to capture and burn the French privateer l'Aigle. The troops are embarked and he intends to sail for Sardinia. Dated on Ranelagh in Vaia Bay.
