Sunderland to the earl of Leven [commander-in-chief in Scotland]: Sir George Byng has prevented the French attempt to land. If no more is heard of them in three or four days, it may be concluded that they have gone back to Dunkirk. The battalions from Ostend will have arrived at Tynemouth. Dated at Whitehall. No. 68
