Description

Papers transferred from the chambers of Master Robert Lee Mosse, who served in the Chancery Division of the High Court from 1930 until 1950. The records consist almost entirely of pedigrees arising from proceedings in connection with the administration of estates. One or two probates of wills and similar documents connected with the estates are also included.

The series most likely contains material inherited from his predecessors by Master Robert Lee Mosse (1930-1950). The predecessors of Master Robert Lee Mosse (1930-1950) in the role of Master/Chief Clerk were Master Alfred Herbert Holland (1928-1930), Master Joseph Arthur Hamnet (1924-1927), Master Samuel Augustus Mason Satow (1899-1925), Master Henry Francis Church (1866-1898) and, for causes with initial letters G-K, Master Alfred Hall (1852-1873); and for causes with initial letters L-N, Master Robert William Peake (1852-1886).

Selection and destruction information

These documents originated with Master Mosse's predecessors and were selected for preservation following the weeding of records in his chambers under a Destruction Schedule of 14 July 1913, Statutes, Rules and Schedules governing the disposal of Public Records by destruction or otherwise 1877-1913, HMSO, London, 1914 pp 192-4. However the preservation of the many pedigrees in this series appears to stem from an earlier schedule of August 1895, pp 180-87.
