Description

This series continues a Chancery series and, from 1880, also includes material from the Queen's Bench Division. The records arise mainly from cases where the court felt unable to pronounce a verdict on the facts before it and referred the matter to a master of the Supreme Court for further consideration and report.

Material consists of certificates made by masters of the Supreme Court, including the taxing masters, receivers' accounts, special cases (statements of fact), admission of facts or documents, etc. There are also reports of official and special referees, including references under the Arbitration Act 1889, reports under the Solicitors' Act 1888 and schemes under the Charitable Trusts Act 1853. The documents are bound up in accordance with the date of filing under the first letter of the plaintiffs name and there are indexes.
