HO 42/32/177
1794 July 4
Folios 225-227. Letter to Evan Nepean, Under-Secretary, Home Office from John Drummond, King's Bench Prison, describing the unwillingness of the merchant community to lend him money on the security of his estates in the conquered islands of the West Indies, particularly Guadeloupe, on the presumption that the government would return them to France at the next peace. The letter refers to earlier petitions to the king submitted through Henry Dundas and the refusal to accept Drummond as a volunteer on Sir Charles Grey's 1793 expedition to the West Indies, and begs Nepean to use his influence to obtain some relief for him as his wife is dying.
