The records in this series arise mainly from Queen's Bench and Exchequer suits in the High Court of Justice after the establishment of that court in 1875, although a few documents earlier in date are included. Also included are a few earlier depositions in the Court of Queen's Bench.
The depositions consist of statements on oath taken from witnesses as a result of examination by officers of the court or other authorized officials, and used as evidence in court proceedings. They relate mostly to actions of debt and damage in cases concerning commercial and shipping disputes, breaches of contract, etc.
