Folios 179-181. Letter from Mr Calmady Pollexfen Hamlyn, Leawood, Devon, concerning a fire that consumed some cover (woodland) belonging to him in 1819. He believes that the person who actually committed the crime may only have been 'an instrument' and he asks for a pardon to be given to any person concerned in the affair. He has also drafted a possible advertisement including the offer of pardon on the reverse of the letter.
