Description

Debtor: Richard Battle {Bataille}, of Stratford Langthorn [in West Ham, Becontree Hundred, Essex], gentleman, the son of John Battle, knight, deceased, and John Ferne, of the Parish of North Weald Basset [Ongar Hundred, Essex], gentleman.

Creditor: John Heron, of London, knight [Treasurer of the King's Chamber].

Amount: £500.

Before whom: John Tate, Mayor of the Staple of Westminster.

When taken: 15/07/1514

First term: 03/06/1515

Last term: 03/06/1515

Writ to: Sheriff of Essex

Sent by: Chancery.

Endorsement: John Cutt, Sheriff, replies that Richard Battle and John Ferne were not found in the bailiwick.

Inquisition and return: Date to be returned: 13/10/1519. The Sheriff had replied to an earlier writ that Richard Battle was seised of the Manor of Ongar Park in Essex, worth 50m.; and of the Manor of Manuden {Manewdon}, called Battle's {Bataylls}, worth 25m. Attached is the Sheriff's certificate that he has delivered the above-mentioned manors to John Heron, knight.
