Description

Debtor: John Welde, of Rayleigh in Essex [Rochford Hundred], draper, and Nicholas Calf, of London, grocer.

Creditor: Thomas Brice {Bryce}, citizen and mercer, of London.

Amount: £20.

Before whom: Ralph Verney, Mayor of the Staple of Westminster.

When taken: 02/12/1466

First term: 24/06/1467

Writ to: Sheriff of Essex

Sent by: Chancery.

Endorsement: Henry Barley, Sheriff, replies that the debtors were not found in his bailiwick. He has seized a messuage and 7 acres of land into the King's hands. The execution of the rest of the writ appears in the inquisition.

Inquisition and return: Date to be returned: 03/11/1467. Attached is: (a) The inquisition made before Henry Barley at Chelmsford on Tue., 08/09/1467: John Welde was seized on the day of the recognisance, together with John Michell and John Boteld, of a tenement and 7 acres of land in Rayleigh. Afterwards, before the inquisition was made, he gave up his share to the other two. By a charter they conveyed it to John Welde and Joan his wife, for the term of their lives. It is worth 26s. 8d. a year after expenses. (b) A better copy of the inquisition.
