Debtor: John Butcher, of Eversden in Cambs. [Longstow Hundred], husbandman.

Creditor: Thomas Vaughan, esquire.

Amount: £10 10s.

Before whom: Geoffrey Fielding, Mayor of the Staple of Westminster.

When taken: 02/12/1457

First term: 17/04/1458

Writ to: Sheriff of Cambs

Sent by: Chancery.

Endorsement: John Forster, Sheriff, replies that the execution of the writ appears in the inquisition. The certificate is on the Chancellor's file for the 6th year.

Inquisition and return: Date to be returned: 27/01/1467. Attached is: (a) The inquisition made at Royston in Cambs. on 10/01/1467: John Butcher had no lands or tenements, goods or chattels, in the bailiwick on the day of the recognisance, or afterwards. (b) An inquisition made at Hertford on 12/08/1461 before Thomas Hohne, Bailiff of the Liberty of the Duchy of Lancaster in Brayford [NB. This and the following inquisition appear to belong to a separate debt, with Richard Fairfax as the debtor]. Richard Fairfax was seized in demesne on 12/08/1461 of: a tenement and 20 acres of land in Brayford, worth 9s. a year; and a garden, worth 12d. after expenses; and a tenement, called Crossez, and 7 acres in the same township, worth 13s. 4d. He had in Brayford three qrs of oats, worth 2s. 3d. a qr; 8 cart-loads of hay, worth 3s. a cart-load. They have been seized into the kIng's hands. (c) An inquisition made at Hertford on 13/08/1461 before Thomas Ince, esquire, Sheriff. Richard Fairfax has 4 cows, each worth 6s. 8d.; 2 calves, each worth 22d.; 4 young bullocks, each worth 6s. 8d.; and 2 horses, each worth 13s. 4d. He has no other good or chattels, lands or tenements.
