Debtor: Gervase Clifton, of Brabourne in Kent [Wye Hundred], knight.

Creditor: Richard Welby, gentleman, and Simon Dawdeley, citizen and mercer, of London, now deceased.

Amount: £700.

Sent by: Chancery.

Endorsement: The reply of Alexander Clifford, Sheriff: Gervase Clifton was not found in the bailiwick. The execution of the rest of the writ appears in the inquisition. He has seized all his lands into the King's hands.

Inquisition and return: Date to be returned: 25/11/1465. Attached is the inquisition made at Ashford in Kent [Chart & Longbridge Hundred] before Alexander Clifford, Sheriff, on Sat., 09/11/1465. Gervase Clifton on the day of the recognisance was seized in demesne of: three parts of the Manor of Selling [Faversham Hundred], and of the Manor of Harynge in Kent; and one messuage, 45 acres of land, 99 acres of pasture, 12 acres of meadow, 5 acres of land, called Hassockland {Hassokland}, 30 acres of woodland, and a rent of 6s. 2½d. in Selling, next to Monks Horton, in Kent [Stowting Hundred]; also 50 acres of land, and 18 acres of meadow, lying in two fields, called Brettys and Hewell, in Selling and Lympne [Hayne Hundred]; and 20 acres, called Reignoldyslond and Lytoltys, 50 acres of pasture, called Melfeld, 9 acres of pasture, called Stovetys,16 acres of pasture in 2 fields, called Hodtye and Mydiltre, and 15 acres of land, called Hassockland, in Lympne; and rents of 53s. 4d. in Woodchurch in Kent [Blackbourne Hundred]. He had enfeoffed Thomas More, now deceased, Richard Chok, sergeant-at-law, Thomas Rothwell, esquire, John Forster, and William Kerver with these lands, which were worth in all after expenses £20.
