Reference
SC 8/337/15942
Date
[c. 1419]
Description
Petitioners
Hugh Berewyk (Berwick)
Name(s)
Berewyk (Berwick), Hugh
Addressees
[Missing]
Nature of request
[Only a small fragment of this petition survives, and no sense of the request can be recovered from it. However, it almost certainly relates to a case concerning an alleged disseisin by the Lanchestres and Peshale of the manors of Berwick and Willeslond in Shropshire from Hugh Berewyk.]
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
[Shropshire]
[Berwick Maviston, Shropshire]
[Willeslond (Wilsithland in High Ercall), Shropshire].
People mentioned
[John] Lanchestre
Elizabeth [Lanchestre], wife of John Lanchestre
Richard [Peshale]
William Pynor.
Note
Too little remains of this petition to reconstruct the original sense. However, on 9 December 1419 an enquiry was ordered into an alleged disseisin by John and Elizabeth Lanchestre and Richard Peshale of property in Shropshire held by Hugh Berewyk (CPR 1416-22, p.273). Given the few details which survive here, and their position in the text, it seems quite likely that this document formed a request by Berewyk made in relation to this matter. Another complaint by Berewyk to the chancellor is at C 1/4/113.
