The Franciscans of Scarborough request that the king allow them to acquire a toft in Scarborough lately held by Gumer, who has been beheaded. An inquest into this matter was recently held and has been returned into the Chancery.

Note
The friars requested this property in 1297, following Gumer's execution and the confiscation of his lands, but the resultant inquisition (E 143/26/13, dated 29 July 1297 and presumably that referred to in this petition) denied their request (VCH Yorkshire, vol. III). Gumer's son later granted them property in the town (CPR 1292-1301, p.416).
