Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/337/15926
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Heton.
Name(s)
de Heton, Thomas
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Thomas de Heton requests that the king order the Treasurer to pay the sums outstanding of the 26 marks 12s 5¼d granted to him by the king's father for the taking of Gilbert de Middelton, according to the letters detailed in the attached transcript. Despite various writs issued to the former Treasurers, this has not been done.
Nature of endorsement
He should show the letters in chancery and restore the writs, and then let a writ of chancery containing the tenor of this petition be sent to the Treasurer and chamberlains, that they pay the sums contained in the enclosed writs.
People mentioned
Edward II, King of England
Gilbert de Middelton
[William Stapeldon], Bishop of Exeter, Treasurer
[William Melton], Archbishop of York, Treasurer.
Note
Presumably dates to the early part of the reign of Edward III, as the original grant was made by Edward II on 15 February 1318 (SC 8/337/15927). A grant allowing Heton to offset his debts against the sums outstanding was issued on 28 October 1328 (CCR 1327-30, p.331), but is probably not a direct result of this particular petition. For details of this case, see C. Fraser, 'Northumberland Petitions', pp.135-56.
