- The context and handwriting clearly associates this petition with Cecily Neville, Duchess of York and mother of Edward IV, and thus to some point between the death of her husband, Richard, Duke of York, in 1460 and her own death in 1485. Edward, Lord Bergavenny, was her brother, and his successor, George, her nephew; it is unclear which is concerned here, although her brother, and a date in the 1460s, may be more likely.
