Nature of request
The people of Wedon request remedy as the prior of Ogbourne claims them as his neifs and demands against them villein customs and services and to make them do this he distrains them from day to day, and upon which they have brought a writ to prove their franchise and the sheriff of Northamptonshire has been ordered that he give them a day until the next eyre and in the meantime they be at peace, but despite this the prior has put them out of their land and tenements and carried away their goods in contempt of the king.

The petition is dated to 1299-1303 as the matter was very current between these years with many commissions of oyer and terminer being issued on complaints by individual people of Weedon against the actions of the abbot of Bec, prior of Ogbourne and their bailiff (CPR 1292-1301, pp.462-6; CPR 1301-7, p.194).
