Reference
SC 8/323/E585
Date
[? 1306]
Description
Petitioners
Abbots and convents of Kirkstead and Louth Park.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The abbots and convents request that they can be quit of paying the thirtieth of lands and possessions whereof they have paid the tenth, or that they are able to make a fine or the thirtieth without being taxed by lay people. They have paid the tenth, but now they are assessed in the same lands and possessions for the thirtieth by lay people.
Nature of endorsement
The thirtieth is a gift made to the king, so the king does not wish to do anything concerning this petition.
Places mentioned
Kirkstead, [Lincolnshire]
Park de Lud (Louth Park), [Lincolnshire].
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1306 in accordance with the dating of SC 8/322/E531 as it seems likely that the petition was in response to the thirtieth granted to knight the king's eldest son.
