Name(s)

Addressees
Council.
Places mentioned
Gresham, [Norfolk]
York.
Nature of request
Blunvile and Rollisby request that they are able to pay according to the form with the value of the pollard current at the time of Michaelmas as the king and council has ordained according to the nature of writs that were ordered to various sheriffs. They hold the farm by commission of the king, and came to pay the portion of the farm payable at Michaelmas at the receipt at York, by pollards and crockards [base coins], but those of the receipt did not wish to receive it unless they paid double.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
The petition is dated to 1298-1304 because the government seems to be based at York, and it was during this period, and because the problems with pollards and crockards was current in the period 1299-1300 (CPR 1292-1301, pp.435, 510-1)
