Raveneswath requests remedy for the conspiracy and malice against him by Geoffrey de Eston, as a great lord of the county ordered William and Roger de Eston to punish Nicholas le Carpenter and they killed Carpenter and his brother at Aldwark, and then because it became known throughout the country that this lord had ordered this he commanded Geoffrey de Eston to place the blame on someone else and Raveneswath has been maliciously pursued and imprisoned for this.

The petition is dated to 1316-c. 1323 as it makes mention of Simon Ward as then sheriff of Yorkshire, and he served between 1315 and 1323 on three separate occasions (List of Sheriffs, p.161).
