Petition in two parts, on face:]Hastinges requests that the king will take council and will do him right according to the law of the land as his is one of the heirs of King Alexander and ought to have part of the lands of which the king died seised of in Tynedale and Penrith.[On dorse:]Hastinges requests that he be released from his responsibility as pledge for a fine in 10,000 marks made by the earl of Gloucester with the king as the debt has been released.
Nature of endorsement
[On face:]The land is not in the king's hand, therefore he should do what seems to him expedient.[On dorse:]Let the rolls of Chancery be examined, and if the fine was released, the executors of the testament of the earl should be remitted.
