Description
Petitioners
Robert de Wodehouse, late escheator north of the Trent.
Name(s)
de Wodehouse, Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
escheator north of the Trent
Nature of request
Wodehouse requests aid and remedy as the king ordered by the king by writ that Wodehouse, by reason of the ordinances, retake the manor of Heaton and land in Norham into the king's hand, the lands having escheated to the king by forfeiture of John de Grey and had been granted by the king to Wodeham. The escheator ordered the sub-escheator to take them into the king's hand but could not do so because the manor and lands are in the bishop of Durham's liberty of Norham. The bishop entered on the manor and land and requested that the bishop answer to the king for the issues to which he agreed, but now the bishop has intruded Thomas de Grey and the sub-escheator has been unable to oust him.
Nature of endorsement
Coram magno consilio.
Places mentioned
Castle Heaton, Northumberland
Norham, Northumberland
Norhamshire liberty, [Northumberland].
People mentioned
Juliane de Grey
John [de Grey], son and heir of Juliane de Grey

Note
The petition dates to 1312 as the bishop of Durham put Thomas de Grey in possession of the manor of Heaton on 28 October 1312, and this event is referred to in the petition, and cannot be too distant in the past (Reg. Dunelm I, pp.1170-1171).
