Reference
SC 8/321/E496
Date
[1341-1343]
Description
Petitioners
People of the commonalty of the land of England.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The people request that the king will make a declaration upon the first article of the [statute de donis] Statute of Westminster II of conditional gifts [reciting a substantial part of the article of the statute] as it is believed by some that the effect of the article does not prevent them from alienating and barring their heirs or the heirs of the donor when the article was intended for those enfeoffed to them and the heirs of their body, or to individuals, their wives and the heirs from their bodies
Nature of endorsement
The petition is founded on a false cause, therefore nothing.
e note on the dating given by Sayles (SCCKB, vol.III, p.cxx (note 1)).
Note
The petition has been dated to 1341-1343 on the basis of the reference, struck-through, to the quinzene of Easter, parliament in April in those years being approximately right for the endorsement. For further information see the note on the dating given by Sayles (SCCKB, vol.III, p.cxx (note 1)).
