Stapelton requests the king's grace that he is able to recover his free tenement as he was granted a rent in Thirsk and Hovingham by Mowbray but subsequently disseised by him while Stapelton was in the Gascon war with his lord the earl of Lincoln, and he is unable to have recovery because the rent is in the king's hand by the death of Mowbray.
Nature of endorsement
He should pursue this for himself by writ of novel disseisin against the disseisors and the tenants, the justices should proceed to take the assize notwithstanding that the tenements are in the king's hand, but they should defer judgment until the king etc. if necessary etc.

Hovingham, [North Riding of Yorkshire]
Gascony, [France].
