Name(s)
de Rothwell, Alan
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[The petition is not completely legible, though the sense is pretty clear].Rothwell requests that Neville and Burnham be ordered to deliver him at the next delivery of Lincoln as he has been imprisoned for three years or more because of an indictment before Bereford, the justices of delivery not wishing to go to delivery, have hitherto, delayed.
Nature of endorsement
Let nothing thence be done.
Places mentioned
Lincoln, [Lincolnshire].
People mentioned
William de Bereford
Simon de Rason
John de Nevill (Neville)
Thomas de Burneham (Burnham).
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1306 as it is clearly a near contemporary of SC 8/321/E495. In SC 8/321/E495 the original commission into the death of Robert de Rothwell referred to in the petition was made on 20 September 1303, and the petitioner refers to himself as being imprisoned for three years because he was indicted before the justices assigned in that commission. As this petition similarly refers to the petitioner being imprisoned for three years, both petitions must date to c. 1306 (CPR 1301-7, p.194).
